Life costsAustralia has quite similar prices compared to Austria. Fruit, vegetable, meat, gasoline, etc. is mostly cheaper than in Austria, on the other side alcohol (especially short drinks), chocolate and so on are a little bit more expensive in Australia. Some travellers attempt to job - e.g. as fruitpicker (is some kind of harvest helper) - to improve their budget a little bit. A lot of these people only have a tourist visa and thus the have no work permission and work illegally at a lower fee. We were too lazy for working for a wage of 5 dollar/hour at a melon harvest (which is hard work for sure) and risk to get caught maybe (and then be banished from the country). Instead we lived economically enough in order to get along with our funds. Our costs were limited to food, spares, internet and sights. Because we saved a lot of money for accomodation by camping wildly, we lived more favorably than expected. |
