Fauna
Australias flora and fauna is unique due to its isolated location: 4/5 of the Australian plants and an even higher part of the animal species - in the other continents lost a long time ago - are only found here. In the last 200 years (since colonisation through the white people) this domestic species were threatened or became extincted because of the import of not-native plants and animals. So nowadays there are some laws and arrangements to save and protect this unique fauna and flora.Australia is not only known for its beautiful nature. It is the most poisounous continent too. We will introduce to you some of these animals, but not to put you off this country. It is important to know about this things, because, only if someone is ignorant or careless, these can become dangerous. Just as remark: We think that the most dangerous species for bikers still is the motorist.
More than half of the Australian animals living ashore are marsupials. Those ones are mammals which are already born as embryos and then grow up in the pouch of the mother. Kangaroos and koalas as well as possums, etc. are counted among the marsupial mammals.

Particularly we were taken with the often splendiferous and colorful birds. There are animals living in freedom, we only knew from cages (one example is the budgerigar - also called Australian parrot). We will present just a few well-known from these thousands of different kinds of birds.
