Mosquitoes

At sunset when the annoying flies finally have disappeared, the mosquitoes come out. Yippee! They especially love the twilight and then the whole family (with thousands of relatives) make a sashay. Later at night perhaps the children have to go to bed because they get fewer and thus more harmless in our opinion. Unfortunately mosquitoes live everywhere in Australia, but they mainly bothered us in the tropical north.

We protected ourselves against this pest with long clothes (sometimes even with our rainwear, because thin clothes are like nothing for them) or hid ourself behind a mosquito net in our tent. We almost never used any insect repellent, because the only one helping against Australian mosquitoes has a great disadvantage. It eats away even snythetic clothing! Can't be good for human skin so. But it is necessary to protect yourself against the mossis, because they can pass on serious diseases.

By the way: on the first day in Australia Birgit had 56 mosquito bites only on the left lower leg. That was a lesson for us!
