Kangaroos

The probably best known marsupial mammal is the kangaroo (one of the heraldic animals of Australia too). Every Australia visitor, who makes a trip outside the cities, will probably catch sight of the animals in wildlife. There are about 50 kinds, from which the largest can become approximately 2 meters. Mostly you can see the shy animals only from the distance.

From time to time during camping we had the chance to see them nearby. If you don't have so much luck, you can contemplate the kangaroo caracasses at the roadside, because the animals often fall victim to cars and trucks (of course another observation possibility would be visiting a zoo or a national park, where they are accustomed to people). By the Way: Most kangaroos do not become active before the cooler evening hours.
